Pinterest SEO for People who have no clue what SEO is

I have heard through numerous creators on both Youtube and TikTok that Pinterest is highly underrated and a great way to start monetizing your blog, small business, etc.

So, naturally, I wanted to hop on the train. I started first by researching how to grow your Pinterest account and was led to SEO. Apparently, SEO is search engine optimization and allegedly it is super important and probably why none of my pins so far have gotten any views. I have been completely ignoring this intricate set of tips, tricks, and rules that the Pinterest algorithm Gods demand we mere mortals use in order to get our Pins out there and on screens.

I was an English Major as well as a Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Major. I know absolutely nothing about SEO. My coding experience is HTML that I did for my Neopets account back in 2005.

My extent of knowledge of Pinterest is that I used to use it to plan my wedding as well as events for my Sorority chapter. My only followers were my sorority sisters and maybe the occasional fan of chevron print and mint green. To me, to venture onto Pinterest in 2023 was Cheugy and Pinterest had lost its place in modern society. Not trying to be harsh, I just was really under the impression that this platform was no longer really in use.

However, I was really wrong. Especially with Tok Tok potentially being banned, people are looking to other platforms to be their new social media home. And, people and small businesses alike are going to need to adapt to get their product and message out there.

Pinterest SEO Tips…

  • Pinterest is in someway a lot like Tok Tok in that it is social media platform, but it is also a search engine

    • because it is a visual search engine there are a few things that will make your pins do better allegedly such as…

      • image formatting, apparently this is a big one because Pinterest wants their feed to look good

    • like other platforms Pinterest also apparently promotes pins that have both high engagement and come from a user that has high engagement/activity with the platform

      • so the idea to me, with Pinterest seems to be slow and steady wins the race

      • by creating high quality content, you’re creating “Evergreen” content that will come up in searches over and over and over, if done correctly

  • I have seen just about every single Tik Tok under the search “How to get started on Pinterest” and “What would you do if you were starting your Pinterest from zero followers or day one”

    • here are the common things I heard…

      • Convert your current Pinterest account into a business account for the analytics

        • I’m going to be honest, this is not super helpful because like, duh, I already did this but what good are analytics when you have zero views and zero saves and zero pins

      • also reading and watching that like, every single piece of your profile should be optimized for Keywords for your niche. I am writing a more in depth article to break this down… HERE: How to optimize your Pinterest Profile
